Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge has announced that four journalists from Brazil, Germany, New Zealand and Taiwan have been selected to participate in a week-long journalism fellowship program designed to increase awareness and appreciation of Los Angeles by residents of its 24 Sister Cities around the world and to increase tourism to Los Angeles from those regions.

Michael S. McDowell, a long time contributor to promoting cultural affairs for Los Angeles, has been named Senior Director of Cultural Tourism for LA INC. The Convention and Visitors Bureau.
LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau and Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) have appointed Maria E. (Mariella) Carmona to the position of Sales Coordinator for the Americas Regional Office.

Mr. Masahiro Andachi, Asia Pacific Regional Director for LA INC. The Convention and Visitors Bureau/ Los Angeles World Airports, was elected to the board of directors for the Japan Visit USA Committee at the committee's annual general assembly on Dec. 8. Andachi will serve a two-year term on the board in 2005 and 2006.
The number of international visitors to Los Angeles is estimated to double projected expectations this year. The U.S. Department of Commerce Office of Travel and Tourism Industries initially forecasted a 4% increase in international visitors to the U.S. in 2004.
