A 2008 report conducted by the Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA) has shown that Southern California is ranked number 7 on its list of top 10 U.S. destinations considered hot spots for student and youth travel.
According to a SYTA report conducted in 2007, a majority of 12 to 18 year old travelers in the United States take at least one significant group trip each year without parents; spending almost $10 billion a year. Most tours are either focused on an educational or performing arts component.
The rich cultural offerings available in Los Angeles from museums to performances make LA a very popular destination for student and youth travelers. In addition, Hollywood, the beaches and theme parks were also popular choices for students and youth travelers.
In September 2008, Los Angeles was well represented at SYTA’s 2008 Annual Conference in San Antonio. LA INC.’s Senior Director of Travel Industry and Tourism Development, Patrick Kaler, was joined by representatives from the Kodak Theatre, Madame Tussauds, Catalina Express, Pacific Park, Red Line Tours, Sony Pictures Studio Experience, Starline Tours, Stella Adler Studio – Los Angeles, UCLA Conference Services and Universal Studios Hollywood to showcase all of LA’s offerings to the student and youth travel market.
SYTA is a non-profit, professional trade association that includes more than 750 member organizations who are involved in student and youth travel in North America. Members of SYTA include tour operators, attractions, CVBs, state/provincial offices of tourism, hotels/hostels, restaurants, theaters, transportation and other organizations involved in student and youth travel in North America.
