LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2021) — Group business is back in the City of Angeles as Los Angeles fully re-opens today for meetings and events. The milestone arrives as Los Angeles County aligns with the State of California in adopting new safety protocols that ease mask mandates and lift both capacity limits and physical distancing requirements.

Under the new protocols, L.A. is now able to welcome groups of any size to the destination. Presently, proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test will be required for indoor events with more than 5,000 attendees and the same restrictions are recommended for outdoor events with more than 10,000 attendees.

“We are incredibly optimistic about what the future holds for meetings and conventions in Los Angeles,”said Darren K Green, Senior Vice President of Sales and Services for Los Angeles Tourism. “From stadiums and studios to the world-class Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC), L.A, is unmatched when it comes to venues that allow for flexible, open-air experiences. In fact, with lead volume and site requests showing a dramatic increase, we are already seeing positive signs of recovery.”

L.A. has been able to rebook and retain most of the groups that could not meet in 2020 and 2021. A number of conventions are already on the books for the remainder of the year including The GSMA’s Mobile World Congress in October that will bring thousands of technology leaders to explore the future of 5G.

Conventions represent a significant economic impact for L.A. In 2018, citywide conventions held at LACC drew more than 400,000 attendees who booked 401,154 room nights and generated $341.7 million in direct spending.

As business returns, the focus on client and health will continue. L.A. was the first destination to become VERIFIED™ through Sharecare and Forbes Travel Guide, offering L.A. hotels with more than 50 rooms the ability to sign up and receive an on-property “seal of approval” for their safety protocols. In May, Los Angeles Tourism also became the first Destination Marketing Organization to partner with CLEAR Health Pass, offering planners a turn-key solution to that will enable them to verify attendees’ vaccine and testing status.
