On Feb. 28, 2010, LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau launched its inaugural LA Cultural Photo Tour. Born from LA INC.'s "Photo of the Day" blog that was started in October 2009, a group of 25 “Photo of the Day” winners were hosted by LA INC. on a double-decker bus tour of Los Angeles; stopping at several cultural institutions from Hollywood to Downtown to the Westside. The tour was sponsored by Starline Tours and coincided with LA INC.'s Discover the Arts in Los Angeles program (offering the public up to 50% savings at cultural institutions around the county).
The second LA Cultural Photo Tour had more than 75 participants and showcased some of LA’s hidden gems; public art in Metro stations along the Metro Red Line as well as landmarks within close proximity to the Metro Gold Line stations towards East LA. The third installment of the Los Angeles Cultural Photo Tour (Aug. 1) highlighted locations used in feature film. The tour was guided by Marty Cummins (location scout for “500 Days of Summer”) and Harry Medved (Head of PR for Fandango). The last tour of 2010 was also guided by Marty and Harry. The group had the opportunity to visit San Pedro. The purpose of ON LOCATION is to: (1) highlight the culturally rich sites in and around Los Angeles; (2) promote and support the arts by giving local photographers a forum by which to showcase their work and talent; (3) engage and involve community members in conveying the story of Los Angeles in their own unique way; and (4) develop an inventory of multimedia resources that can be used in various capacities to showcase and promote Los Angeles as a one-of-a-kind visitor destination.
