Los Angeles may not have made Forbes' list of the 10 fittest U.S. cities this year (Austin, Texas? Minneapolis, Minnesota? Really?), but its place in fitness lore – from the Governor’s days of pumping iron in Venice to the aerobics craze of the 1980s to the fact that Sports Club LA has outlets in New York, Boston and Miami – makes it a natural choice to host the annual convention for the world’s largest association for fitness and wellness professionals. And that’s exactly what’s happening Downtown next month.
The 26th Annual IDEA World Fitness Convention expects to attract more than 5,000 people when it’s held at the Los Angeles Convention Center and L.A. LIVE Aug. 4-8.
TV Host Mario Lopez will emcee the IDEA Fitness Awards Show from the Nokia Theatre Aug. 5, while other special guests include former tennis pro Andre Agassi. Additionally, U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina Benjamin will receive the IDEA Leadership Award for her efforts alongside First Lady Michelle Obama to help Americans lead healthier lives. Awards will also be given out to Personal Trainer of the Year, Fitness Instructor of the Year and Program Director of the Year.
The convention will also feature more than 350 exercise sessions – ranging from Pilates to mixed martial arts conditioning to yoga and spinning – conducted by about 150 industry experts, as well as exhibitions from more than 250 fitness companies. Fitness professionals can earn as many as 23 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) attending the convention, whole those looking to socialize can hit up the convention’s Happy Hour at Nokia Plaza on Friday the 6th.
Registration prices range from $219 for a one-day exhibition-day pass for IDEA members to $629 for an on-site full-event pass for non-members, as well as dozens of exhibit choices in between. Please see www.ideafit.com, or check out the convention’s electronic brochure: CLICK HERE.
