There’s no better way to check out the art (and the shopping) at Abbot Kinney Boulevard, located in the heart of Venice, than stopping by on the first Friday of every month. The event starts around 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. The neighborhood merchants come together to feature the best artists, gifts, products and music. And of course, beverages are available. It’s a way to experience what Abbot Kinney Boulevard is all about.
“We wanted to support locally owned businesses in Venice,” says Mike Newhouse, Community Officer for the Venice Neighborhood Council. “So we created this walkable community event as a way to support the businesses and strengthen the feel of Abbot Kinney.”
Merchants also support charitable initiatives to contribute to the local community. It’s a statement for those who come to the event. “Age-wise, it’s all over the board,” Newhouse says. “It’s not all 20-s and 30-somethings at the bar. It’s not all 50-somethings buying art.”
The hodge-podge of event-goers creates an exciting yet community-oriented atmosphere, making it a perfect night for dates, visits with family and friends — and also a perfect way to introduce yourself to the neighborhood. Like Newhouse says, “It looks like Venice.”
