The San Francisco hospitality brand, Sonder, Inc., has launched a new outpost called The Winfield, located within the 1920s Foreman & Clark Building at 7th and Hill Streets. The 13-story building, formerly a department store and office tower, was converted into a 125-key hotel by Bonnis Properties. The Winfield, named for Foreman & Clark founder Winfield Foreman, features a kitchenette in all guest rooms, which include two penthouse suites that are 2,000 and 2,800 square feet. Other features include a gym, a yoga room, and a terrace deck on the fifth floor. Curlett & Beelman designed the Art Deco and Gothic-style building, which once housed the flagship store and corporate headquarters of the now-defunct Foreman & Clark chain. That's not all to come from Sonder, look out for it's second Downtown Los Angeles, The Craftsman, set to open early 2024.

Mama Shelter Downtown Los Angeles
Opening 2026
It was recently announced that the second Mama Shelter location in Los Angeles will transform the existing Mart South Building in the Downtown Fashion District. The property will boast 145 standard rooms and four suites, as well as a three festive food and beverage offerings with an all-day dining concept, a café on ground floor and a rooftop bar and terrace overlooking the city. The new concept is expected to open in early 2026.

Warner Bros Studio Tours
- Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month, paying tribute to the generations of Hispanics who have positively influenced and enriched storytelling. Kobe Bryant Statue
February 2024
The Los Angeles Lakers will pay tribute to Hall of Famer and former Lakers All-Star Kobe Bryant with a bronze statue in front of Crypto.com Arena, previously Staples Center, where Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career. The statue will be unveiled on February 8, 2024 before the Laker's home game that evening.

Wednesday Addams Dress Installation at Natural History Museum (Exposition Park)
The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) in Exposition Park unveiled the newest featured item in their rotating displays from the costumes collection, a dress worn by Christina Ricci for her role as Wednesday Addams in the 1993 film Addams Family Values. The dress is the newest object to be featured as part of NHM’s permanent Becoming Los Angeles exhibit, which includes rotating displays of costumes and artifacts from Hollywood’s history. UPCOMING
The Egyptian Theatre reopening
The Egyptian Theater is set to open its doors again on November 9th after undergoing a large renovation to restore the theatre. At 101 years old, the theatre is one of the oldest and most iconic in Los Angeles. Once reopened, the theatre plans to screen Netflix’s upcoming thriller “The Killer” followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, David Fincher. The film is scheduled to hit the streaming platform on Nov. 10.

The Egyptian Book of the Dead at the Getty Villa (Westside)

Among their rigorous preparations for eternity, ancient Egyptians developed an intricate set of religious writings to help the deceased achieve a blessed afterlife in union with the solar god Re and the netherworld god Osiris. Known collectively as the Book of the Dead, these ritual spells were inscribed on funerary objects. This exhibition features the Getty's Book of the Dead manuscripts, which have never been on public view.

New Delta West Headhouse and Delta One Check-in and Ticketing Lobby
Delta and LAWA celebrated the opening of Delta’s new West Headhouse and Delta One Check-in and Ticketing Lobby at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)’s Terminal 3. The milestone represents the second to last major phase before the full Delta Sky Way project opens to the public later this summer. Together through a joint $2.3 billion investment of both LAWA and Delta funding, the partners are modernizing one of the airline’s key global hubs.
The West Headhouse, which features self-service kiosks for passengers to drop their bags and print boarding passes, provides another entry point to easily check in and get to security. Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) opened LAX Budget Parking, a new parking facility set to further enhance the options and experience of guests using Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). LAX Budget Parking expands on the success of the award-winning LAX Economy Parking Facility and is the most affordable option for travelers, with prices generally ranging from $15 to $20 per day with deeper discounts available.

Airside Link Between Terminals Opens at LAX
For the first time ever at LAX, ticketed passengers and airport employees can now enjoy unrestricted terminal-to-terminal pedestrian access post-security. The new path of travel equals approximately 2-miles from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8, allowing airport guests to conveniently journey to connecting flights and an abundant collection of offerings including food and beverage vendors, shopping and entertainment experiences, lounges, children's play areas and pet relief stations, among others. The airside ink between terminals is one of many updates making LAX efficient, dependable and user-friendly.

The Automated People Mover at LAX

The Automated People Mover (APM) is the centerpiece of LAX’s $5.5 billion Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP) which will enhance the traveler experience, give guests time-certain access to terminals and provide the long-awaited connection to the regional transportation system. This project is a key portion of LAX’s $15 billion modernization program, considered the largest public works program in the history of the City of Los Angeles. The APM is an electric train system on a 2.25-mile elevated guideway with six stations total – three inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and three outside the CTA. Los Angeles International Airport broke ground on the APM project in March 2019 and anticipates that the system will be operational in 2024. During peak hours (9 a.m. to 11 p.m.), the APM will run nine trains, each with four cars and will be capable of carrying up to 50 passengers and their luggage, with a total of 200 passengers per train. Train speed will top out at 47 mph. The APM will be free for all users and operate 24/7.

Metro Regional Connector Transit Project
In June, Metro unveiled a newly constructed 1.9-mile rail link that provides riders a seamless journey from Azusa to Long Beach and from East Los Angeles to Santa Monica, through the Downtown Los Angeles core. The project includes three new underground stations and extends from the L Line (Gold) in Little Tokyo and Arts District communities to the A (Blue) and E (Expo) Lines at 7th Street/Metro Center Station. This project improves connections and makes it easier to ride across LA County without transferring lines.
The Purple (D Line) Extension Transit Project will add seven new stations and a reliable, high-speed connection between DTLA and the Westside, one of LA’s busiest areas. Opening in three sections, Section 1 will include the Wilshire/La Brea Station, Wilshire/Fairfax Station and Wilshire/La Cienega Station - slated to open in 2024.

100TH Anniversary of the Hollywood Sign
Throughout this year, the iconic Hollywood Sign will celebrate 100 years of larger-than-life lettering perched atop the Santa Monica Mountains. Originally reading “Hollywoodland” in its early days, the Sign is now an enduring symbol of Los Angeles as a place where magic is possible and any dream can come true.
Hollywood enthusiasts can expect celebratory events all throughout the centennial year. There are many ways to experience Hollywood’s past and present including the upcoming opening of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ Hollywoodland exhibit chronicling the founding of the Hollywood studio system. Visitors can also step into Hollywood history with a stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel, a martini at the 100-year-old Musso & Frank Grill or a show at the Pantages Theatre. For spectacular views of the cityscape and the Sign itself, travelers can hike through the Mt. Hollywood Trail, Brush Canyon Trail and Cahuenga Peak Trail or even ride horseback on the Mulholland Trail.

100TH Anniversary of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (Exposition Park)

The beloved Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum celebrates 100 years of hosting major sporting and entertainment events as a key LA venue in Exposition Park. The Coliseum is an icon of the sports world having served as the home field for Los Angeles professional sports teams including the Rams, Raiders, Chargers and Dodgers in its storied past, and has been home to the USC Trojans since the Coliseum’s opening. The venue has also hosted two Super Bowls, three NFL Championships and one World Series, and is the only venue to host two Summer Olympics—soon to be three in 2028. Sports are not the only major events the Coliseum has seen within its walls, hosting concerts by some of the world’s most famous artists including the Rolling Stones, Prince, U2 and Metallica.
The Coliseum also plays a part in key historical events, dedicated as a memorial to LA County WWI veterans upon opening in 1923. Martin Luther King Jr. also spoke at the venue less than a year after giving his famous “I Have A Dream” speech.
On top of the incredible events that happen at the Coliseum year-round, 2023 will see additional centennial events in celebration of the anniversary. The year kicked off with Nascar’s Busch Light Clash in celebration of Nascar’s 75th anniversary season on February 5, with the Super Motocross World Championship on the docket for October 14 as well.

The Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles celebrates its 100th anniversary with a centennial logo, a series of anniversary events and updates to maintain the Biltmore’s longstanding grandeur. With previous lives as a prohibition nightclub, Academy Awards venue and feature film set, the Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles was recently declared a “Los Angeles Historic-Culture Monument” dazzling guests since 1923.
The centennial celebrations will include an elegant 100th Anniversary Ball in October 2023, thematic speakeasy events, An Evening with Mermaids event, high teas at the Rendezvous Court and a soon-to-be-announced fashion show, showcasing the Biltmore’s impressive history, ornate design and Old Hollywood style.

Destination Crenshaw
Expected 2024
Destination Crenshaw will be the largest public/private Black art program in the nation, stamping a 1.3-mile stretch of Crenshaw Boulevard with an infrastructure project that includes beautifully designed community spaces, landscaping, and newly planted trees, and 100 commissioned works by Black artists. While elevating Black culture, Destination Crenshaw will also boost the community through economic development, job creation and environmental healing.

PST ART: Art & Science Collide
Returning September 2024
Southern California’s landmark arts event, Pacific Standard Time, returns in September 2024 with more than 50 exhibitions from museums and other institutions across the region, all exploring the intersections of art and science, both past and present. Dozens of cultural, scientific, and community organizations will join the latest edition, PST ART: Art & Science Collide, with exhibitions on subjects ranging from ancient cosmologies to Indigenous sci-fi, and from environmental justice to artificial intelligence. Art & Science Collide will share groundbreaking research, create indelible experiences for the public, and generate new ways of understanding our complex world.

Hollywoodland at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (Mid-City)
Opening May 2024
Hollywoodland will trace the history of filmmaking in Los Angeles back to its roots at the beginning of the 20th century, illustrating how and why the city became the world capital of cinema that it still is today. With a focus on the predominantly Jewish founders of the early Hollywood studio system, the exhibition will delve into how their personal narratives shaped the distinct characteristics of the movies their respective studios produced, and contextualize the role of antisemitism in motivating their visionary efforts. This immersive gallery will convey the evolving topography of Los Angeles along the timeline of the developing movie industry, allowing visitors to feel a tangible proximity to this rich history and encouraging further exploration of the city’s landmarks upon departing the Academy Museum.

Intuit Dome
Expected 2024
The $1.2 billion Intuit Dome will welcome fans in 2024 as the new home of the Los Angeles Clippers with a spectacular campus including practice and training facilities, a 150-room hotel and public plaza featuring basketball courts and live music stages. Alongside SoFi Stadium and the Hollywood Park development, the development solidifies Inglewood as a new hub for sports and entertainment in Los Angeles.

NHM Commons
Expected 2024
The Natural History Museum recently announced NHM Commons, a new wing and community hub on the southwest side of the museum campus in Exposition Park. Slated to open in 2024, the transformative $75 million expansion and renovation project will create approximately 60,000 square feet of renovated space and new construction that will serve as both a destination and a portal into the Museum.

LACMA Renovations
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art continues its major renovations transforming four aging buildings into the David Geffen Galleries, a magnificent new building for the permanent collection designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor. The efficient space will feature 110,000 square feet of gallery space, a new theater, education spaces, three restaurants/cafes, a museum shop and multipurpose event spaces. In addition, the new building spans Wilshire in order to provide 3.5 acres of new park and outdoor space for visitors.

Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center
On July 20, 2023 the California Science Center commenced Go for Stack, the complex process of moving and lifting each of the space shuttle components into place for Endeavour’s upcoming awe-inspiring 20-story vertical display. This technically challenging feat has never been done outside of a NASA facility. December 31, 2023 will be the last chance to see Endeavour on exhibit for several years until the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center opens to the public. The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will dramatically expand the footprint and impact of the California Science Center, adding 200,000 square feet of space for exhibits, events and educational programs, and include three multi-level galleries – Air, Space and Shuttle – spanning four floors of exhibit space.

Lucas Museum of Narrative Art
Expected 2025
Founded by philanthropist and filmmaker George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson, Co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will focus on the universal art of visual storytelling. The museum will present exhibitions for diverse public audiences unpacking visual storytelling in its richness and complexity through dynamic learning opportunities and public programs. Designed by renowned architect Ma Yansong and under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, the museum will feature expansive galleries, state-of-the-art cinematic theaters, dedicated spaces for learning and engagement, a new public green space, restaurants, retail and event spaces.
