100th Anniversaries Enhancing LA Meetings
It’s the year of centennial milestones for LA’s legendary landmarks – famous mainstays like The Hollywood Sign, The Biltmore Los Angeles, the LA Memorial Coliseum and others celebrate their 100th anniversaries in the Capital of Creativity.
Wrapped up in a century of history, legacy, preservation and stories, these Centennials are inspiring planners, enhancing meeting experiences and giving attendees a sense of appreciation for the past.
See the educational opportunities, tours and events happening throughout the year, and learn more about these special group settings found only in Los Angeles.
The Iconic Hollywood Sign
You know those symbolic letters well: H-O-L-L-Y-W-O-O-D. They tower over the Santa Monica Mountains as the gatekeeper of our city, and just 30 minutes from Downtown LA, your attendees can get a close-up view of them (from horseback to helicopter). December 8, 2023, is the official 100th anniversary of the iconic sign, and to celebrate, LA is hosting events throughout the year leading up to this centennial milestone.
The Historic Biltmore Los Angeles Hotel
Few hotels from the early 20th century still exist today; fewer carry a legacy and grandeur like The Biltmore Los Angeles. The illustrious property has been the backdrop to more than 1,000 productions, including films, TV series, videos and commercials. It’s welcomed U.S. presidents, eight Academy Awards banquets, revered activists like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and countless cultural influencers. And with 638 luxury guest rooms, 18 function rooms (totaling 70,000 square feet of space) and anniversary events and activities happening throughout the year, The Biltmore creates one of the most stunning settings for attendees gathering in Downtown LA.
LA’s Beloved El Cholo
As the city’s longest-running Mexican restaurant, El Cholo is a dining institution spanning six generations. As a part of LA’s identity, the beloved restaurant has an inimitable menu and atmosphere that have stood the test of time. At The Original location on Western Avenue, the restaurant is cozy, and the booths are cozier, so space can be limited; however, groups and attendees can get a true taste of history at several locations throughout the region, including Downtown LA and Santa Monica. El Cholo is celebrating its centennial with the yearlong initiative to raise $1 million for pediatric cancer research – with donations made to Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and Orange County’s Children’s Hospital/CHOC Foundation.
Warner Bros. Studios
One of the “busiest working studios in Hollywood” is also one of the most iconic. Warner Bros. Studios has been behind some of the most well-known films and storytelling throughout the last century, and your attendees can get a behind-the-studio look at the magic of its productions. From Classic to Deluxe tours, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood will have your group on backlots, sets and interactive displays to see how the stories we know and love came to be. In addition, Warner Bros. is putting on a yearlong concert series in 100 cities across the world to commemorate its 100th anniversary: “Candlelight: 100 Years of Warner Bros.” So, even if attendees won’t be in LA this year for their meeting or event, they can celebrate with us from wherever they are at a participating venue nearby – from Atlanta to Denver to Phoenix to Tampa.
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is a National Historic Landmark with a century of history, including countless entertainment, cultural, military and sporting events. Located at Exposition Park in Downtown LA, The Coliseum has been the home field for the USC football team since 1923. And even with a $315 million renovation that included expanded seating capacity and new technology infrastructure, the stadium’s historical elements and heritage have remained. From social events to corporate meetings and the iconic football field to the historic Peristyle, the world-famous venue means business too. Additional spaces for groups include an award-winning multilevel Press Box, breakout patios, the Coliseum Boardroom and the USC Recruit Lounge. Attendees can also experience the Coliseum on one of the historic tours offered.
