Whether pie has a lid, a crumbled cap, or Graham cracker crust, a fruit, nut, or custard filling, LA’s got plenty of enticing options. Grab a fork and knife or use your hands and enjoy more than a dozen of our favorite pies.

27th Street Bakery
Now in its third generation, the family-owned 27th Street Bakery has been serving its famous Sweet Potato Pie since 1956. Along with the signature pie, the In-Store Menu includes Pecan, Sweet Potato Pecan and Sweet Pumpkin. The Small Sweet Potato, Small Pecan and Small Sweet Potato Pecan Pies are available by the dozen. During the holidays, the bakery can ship your pie!

The Apple Pan
With the motto “Quality Forever,” The Apple Pan continues to serve loyal customers who hover for a seat at the always busy U-shaped counter. Not much has changed at the landmark restaurant since it opened in 1947, with the notable exception of accepting credit cards after decades of being cash-only. There are still only two burgers on the menu - the standard Steak Burger and the iconic Hickory Burger. Fries arrive first, along with a cardboard plate onto which your server (in an old school paper hat) will pour dollops of ketchup.
Pies are available by the slice for $7.75 or whole ($39). Arguably as beloved as the Hickory Burger, the Banana Cream Pie is packed with thick-cut banana slices and topped with 100% pure whipped cream. Other favorites include Fresh Apple and Pecan, both of which can be topped with ice cream or whipped cream for an extra $2.25. On weekends, you can go off-menu and order a mash-up of Banana (or Coconut) and Chocolate Cream Pie.

Birdie G’s
Chef Jeremy Fox and Santa Monica hitmakers Rustic Canyon Family launched his dream restaurant in an industrial space just past Bergamot Station’s gates. Named for Fox's daughter Birdie and grandmother Gladys, Birdie G's serves up wood-grilled meats and fish; steaks dry-aged in-house and handmade pastas, with numerous veg-friendly and gluten-free options. Esters co-owner Kathryn Coker curates a 250-bottle wine list that ranges from classic to trending styles from around the world.
For dessert, pastry chef Deanie Hickox offers the standout “World Famous” Rose Petal Pie - a floral, stained-glass pink pie crafted with raspberries, fresh and dehydrated strawberries, candied rose petals, hibiscus and crushed pretzel crust.

Cake Monkey Bakery
Even though pastry chef Elizabeth Belkind and business partner Lisa J. Olin have a neon sign in their Mid-City bakery that reads, “enjoy life eat cake,” rest assured that Cake Monkey Bakery puts plenty of effort into pie. Belkind bakes delectable blueberry frangipane pies, which contained concentrated Michigan blueberry jam, a layer of tangy, gritty lemon frangipane, and piecrust studded with Demerara sugar granules, which caramelize during baking. Depending on the time of year, you might also find cherry almond pie, brown butter pecan pie, butterscotch pudding pie, “creamy dreamy” chocolate pie, or cider-roasted apple pie in an indulgent double cheddar crust.

Crustees Eatery
Sharon Washington and her family started with Sharon’s Heavenly Cobblers, expanded to local farmers markets under the Crustees Eatery moniker and now go well beyond cobbler at a Windsor Hills bakery and café. Their stylish space features umbrella-shaded sidewalk tables and countertop pie incubator. Six-inch pies and cobblers include sweet potato, sweet-tart rhubarb with a buttery double crust, and savory chicken pot pie. Peach crisp is another strong option, topped with oats, pecans, and brown sugar and a central dough heart. Crustees Eatery also has soup bins that often include standout gumbo.

Du-par's - The Original Farmers Market
An LA classic nearly as old as The Original Farmers Market itself, Du-par's has been serving their legendary Buttermilk Hotcakes since 1938. Nearly as famous are the classic pies, which are baked fresh daily and range from Traditional like Green Apple; to Seasonal like Mince and Sweet Potato; to Fresh Creams & Specialty Pies like Strawberry Cream and Southern Pecan. Be sure to ask about the Pie of the Month!

Fishing With Dynamite
Manhattan Beach is a long way from the Florida Keys, but chef David LeFevre serves a memorable Key Lime Pie at Fishing With Dynamite, his small seafood-centric restaurant that’s only two blocks from the pier and Pacific Ocean. Inspired by LeFevre's childhood, the slice features a Graham cracker crust with a creamy, sweet tart filling; topped with peaks of torched Italian meringue and tangy lime zest; and plated on lime slices.

Friends & Family
Friends & Family baker extraordinaire Roxana Jullapat and her crew produces delectable butter crust pies for holidays at the Thai Town bakery-café she co-founded with Dan Mattern. Pies could involve market-driven pumpkin, apple, and cranberry, plus two Southern-style crowd pleasers: pecan and chocolate chess. Jullapat’s also been known to bundle seasonal fruits. For instance, one past holiday yielded a beautiful pear, apple and cranberry pie with a double crust and a luscious salted honey pie. Year-round, their pastry case includes flaky seasonal fruit hand pies.

Huckleberry Bakery & Café
Zoe Nathan and longtime pastry lieutenant Laurel Almerinda feed the neighborhood’s need for edible Americana at Huckleberry in Santa Monica. Tart lemon meringue pie makes frequent appearances in the refrigerated case by the register, and fall brings rich, dark and well-spiced pumpkin pie dressed with cloud-like whipped cream and candied pumpkin seeds. For holidays, Huckleberry also sells whole apple pies with thick, flaky butter crusts and bountiful fruit that come in reusable Pyrex glass plates.

Jones Hollywood
Located at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Formosa Avenue, Jones Hollywood is a longtime favorite of local night owls for serving thin crust pizzas, pastas and more till 1am. Priced at just $13, the Jones Apple Pie for Two is a decadent slice served on a sizzling platter in a brown sugar sauce with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

Knowrealitypie
On an Eagle Rock side street, you’ll find the humble home to three-time 2015 KCRW “Good Food” pie contest winner Tracy Ann DeVore, who displays three medals, for blackberry cabernet, maple pecan, and her crust. She started with a tent outside Tommy’s and now presides over a counter and fridge beneath exposed wood rafters. Pies start at $6 and go up as sizes increase. Flaky, buttery crusts host a range of fillings, some seasonal, others simply crafted for comfort. We’d highly recommend salted caramel mango with a streusel top and judicious sweetness, firecracker apple rhubarb with a lid studded with sugar crystals, and sweet-tart Washington cherry with a centrally located heart crust.

Magpies Softserve
Opened in a Silver Lake strip mall in 2016, Magpies Softserve has since expanded to locations in Highland Park and Tarzana. The chef-driven shops offer vegan Softserve Pies available by the slice ($10.95) or whole pies that serve 8-10 people, priced at $49.95.
The Original Fried Softserve Pie is made with Corn Almond Softserve in a graham cracker crust, layered with vegan fudge, honeycomb "candy," and topped with non-dairy whipped cream and fried candied corn flakes.
Playful seasonal options include the Chocolate Icebox Softserve Pie (Fudgesicle Softserve, chocolate cookies, fudge, chocolate crumble, chocolate whip cream, chocolate graham crust) and the nostalgic Cracker Jack Softserve Pie, made with Cracker Jack Softserve, fudge, candied peanuts, and chocolate-covered waffle pieces; topped with peanut butter whipped cream, caramel and peanuts in a graham cracker crust. Magpies recently started offering a sampler of four Softserve Pies with two slices of each: Espresso Chocolate, Chocolate Krispie Treat, Ube and Banana Pudding.
Pie 'n Burger
It’s always pie o’clock at Pie ‘N Burger, which has lived down the street from Caltech since 1963. So says the neon clock on the wall near the entrance. Current owner Michael Osborn started working there in 1972, and the same pie maker has been filling shelves with fruit and cream pies since 1971. They bake more than a dozen types of pie every day. In July and August, that means peach pie with big chunks of fruit and little more. Coconut cream pie is available daily, complete with shreds of toasted coconut, a fluffy meringue cap and thin crust. You may find apple, cherry, or minced meat as well.

Republic of Pie
Located in the NoHo Arts District, Republic of Pie is a community hub serving up sweet and savory pies along with a Stumptown Coffee program in a warm and inviting rustic setting. A sequel opened in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach in July 2024.
Get your chocolate (and caffeine!) fix with the Espresso Almond Chocolate Pie, Chocolate Cream, Chocolate Banana Cream or PB & Chocolate, layered with rich and creamy peanut butter and chocolate; and topped with peanut butter whipped cream and crushed nuts. Can't decide? You can build your own "Frankenpie" with six slices from a selection of Republic's greatest hits.

République
The queue for freshly-baked pastries and breads from James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Margarita Manzke starts forming even before doors open at République, the Mid-Wilshire restaurant she co-owns with her chef/husband, Walter.
The newest addition to the pie lineup, the Ube Coconut Cream Pie is filled with ube coconut jam and pastry cream; fresh young coconut and topped with whipped coconut cream and caramelized coconut chips. Seasonal favorites include Mango Calamansi Cream Pie, featuring chunks of mango layered with calamansi curd, pastry cream and vanilla cream, sprinkled with caramelized coconut chips. After the closure of the Manzkes' Sari Sari Store at Grand Central Market, the much-loved Buko Pie pops up for special occasions like Thanksgiving - fresh young coconut, creamy vanilla pastry cream and crunchy graham streusel baked into a flaky pie shell.

Sweet Lady Jane
After the shocking closure of all of its locations at the end of 2023, Sweet Lady Jane was resurrected under a new owner - Julie Ngu, the CEO of Pacific French Bakery. Ngu reopened several SLJ locations in March 2024, so fans from Downtown LA to Calabasas can once again order the signature Triple Berry Cake.
While the Triple Berry Cake rightfully gets all the attention, don't sleep on the Apple Pie with Pink Lady and Granny Smith apple slices; a sprinkling of cinnamon and nutmeg; and finished with a double-baked butter crust. Another favorite is the Mixed Berry Pie with "all your favorite berries in attendance" - blueberries, blackberries and raspberries are topped with a buttery streusel crumble. For holidays like July 4th and Thanksgiving, keep an eye out for seasonal classics like Cherry, Pecan and Pumpkin.
Winston Pies
Longtime lawyer Brianna Abrams found life is sweeter when baking pies instead of filing legal briefs. She opened a Brentwood pie shop in 2017 and built on early success with a Mid-City outpost in 2018. Abrams named the shop for her hometown – Winston-Salem, North Carolina – and she showcases many Southern recipes starring all-butter crusts. PieSmiths craft double crust pies in fruit flavors like blueberry, cherry, and the seasonal Orchard Peach & Nectarine (June - August). Chocolate Cowgirl is a particularly decadent bake that combines salted caramel chocolate and oat crust. Assorted pies are available by the slice, in 11-inch rounds, as 5-inch minis, 4-inch hand pies, and as tiny PieBites.
