Writer-director Takeshi Kitano stars as Yamamoto, an enigmatic, violent Yakuza enforcer who flees Japan and relocates to Los Angeles where he becomes involved in his half-brother’s drug business. Free from the rigid structure of Yakuza culture, Yamamoto builds his own gang with new associate Denny (Omar Epps) and begins taking over rival territories as the two form a close bond and establish themselves as a formidable force in the underworld. Filmed around Little Tokyo in Los Angeles—and the only feature Takeshi made outside Japan—this is a rare chance to see LA through his uniquely poetic yet brutal lens.
