To mark the closing of the exhibit The Future Is A Well Traveled Track, inspired by 19th and early 20th century visual spectacles, aethetics of train travel and protocinematic devices, the Velaslavasay Panorama screens a selection of cinematic works by the artists while Pa,Sacio Davinci grills burgers for guests in the garden.

The screening features a selection of western genre movies from The King Show, Davinci’s public access programs dating back to the late 1990s starring the South LA neighborhood, weaving Hollywood tropes with hallucinogenic visuals that expand beyond the limits of everyday filmmaking. Davinci has spent over 28 years making art, music and movies that integrate humor, parody, ironic cultural references and found footage, using “amateur” camera work along with repetition methodologies like those pioneered by visionary filmmakers Bruce Conner, Ina Diane Archer and Chick Strand.

In addition to The King Show movies, short films will be screened by artists Ursula Brookbank, Guan Rong and Josie Jensen, highlighting the spectral and shadowy illusions of early cinematic devices.

Celebrate 28 Years of The King Show and 25 Years of Velaslavasay Panorama!
