When a couple with a growing family buys a house on the Westside of Los Angeles, it normally wouldn't make headlines. But when that couple is Beyoncé and Jay-Z, it captures the world's attention. In 2017, the superstars ended months of speculation and bought an $88-million, 30,000 square-foot mansion in Bel-Air. Longtime residents of Los Angeles, Bey (a native of Houston) and Jay (born in Brooklyn) moved into an ultra modern compound with six buildings totalling 8 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, four outdoor swimming pools, and a full-sized basketball court.

In May 2023, Architectural Digest reported that the music moguls had purchased a $200 million home in Malibu, the most expensive private residence ever bought in California history. The home was designed by Pritzker Prize winning Japanese architect Tadao Ando, spans more than 40,000 square feet and has its own private beach.

But the world-famous couple aren't recluses. They're frequently spotted around LA, often with their kids, daughter Blue Ivy and their twins, Rumi and Sir. Even if you never buy a mega-mansion, you can still dine and dress like Beyoncé. Here are some of the Queen's favorite places in Los Angeles.

SoFi Stadium

The first indoor-outdoor stadium to be constructed, SoFi Stadium is the home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers. Located in Inglewood, the state-of-the-art stadium hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022, the College Football Championship Game in 2023, and will host the FIFA World Cup in 2026, Super Bowl LXI in 2027, and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games in 2028.

Beyoncé performed three shows on the Renaissance World Tour at SoFi Stadium, including an unforgettable birthday concert on September 4, featuring surprise appearances by Diana Ross and Kendrick Lamar, and famous well-wishers such as Adele, Lizzo, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and former Destiny's Child member Kelly Rowland.

As she did with 2019's Homecoming, Beyoncé wrote and directed the Renaissance concert film, which premiered at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in LA on Nov. 25, 2023 before its theatrical release on December 1.

GRAMMY AWARDS
Beyoncé made history at the 65th Annual GRAMMY Awards when she won the GRAMMY for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance. With her 32nd GRAMMY, Beyoncé surpassed conductor Georg Solti as the artist with the most career wins. The star-studded crowd cheered as Bey accepted her award and thanked "the queer community for your love, and for inventing the genre.” Beyoncé also won Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“Break My Soul"), Traditional R&B Performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa") and Best R&B song ("Cuff It"). Going into the ceremony, Beyoncé led the field with nine nominations, which tied her with Jay-Z as the most-nominated artists of all time (88 each).

"Formation" - Fényes Mansion

In 2021, Rolling Stone named Beyoncé's "Formation" the greatest music video of all time, noting that director Melina Matsoukas drew inspiration from Maya Angelou, Octavia Butler, and Toni Morrison "in a striking commentary on significant moments in black American history." Though "Formation" is set in New Orleans, according to Curbed the video was filmed in Los Angeles and interspersed with footage from the 2012 documentary short film That B.E.A.T..

The landmark Fényes Mansion (164-198 N Orange Grove Blvd, Pasadena 91103) was dressed to look like a Southern Gothic plantation - production designer Ethan Tobman and his crew added storm shutters, Spanish moss, ivy, and wisteria to the exterior; and decorated the interior with period rugs and furniture.

Located along what was once known as "Millionaire's Row," the Fényes Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places in September 1985 and is the home of the Pasadena Museum of History. Tours of the mansion are available on select weekends. Pricing is $20 for General Admission and $10 for PMH members. For more info and to book a tour, visit the museum website.

Gjelina

In March 2017, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Blue Ivy and Jay's mom, Gloria Carter dined at Gjelina, one of their favorite restaurants in LA. (1429 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice 90291) Like any visiting dignitary, the Queen arrived in one of three Escalantes, accompanied by security guards.

A hotspot for celeb sightings ever since it opened in 2008, Gjelina is always filled with Venice locals - especially at brunch - who tuck into favorites like lemon buckwheat ricotta pancakes, anchovy and burrata toasts, Santa Barbara ridgeback prawns, and the ever-popular mushroom pizza with fontina, truffle tremor goat cheese and thyme.

Moonlight Rollerway

After a modernization and grand reopening in 2017 helmed by nightclub manager Tommy Karas and the late Nipsey Hussle, World On Wheels closed once again in June 2021 - the future of the beloved Mid-City roller rink is uncertain. Beyoncé, Jay-Z and a group of their friends went skating at WOW on a Friday night in August 2017. According to US magazine, Bey was casually dressed in ripped jeans and a black shirt. An onlooker said Beyoncé was a "great skater" and she even did a couple of splits!

Though WOW is closed, there are plenty of places in LA to get your skate on, like Moonlight Rollerway (5110 San Fernando Rd, Glendale 91204) - a local favorite since 1956. From family-friendly open skates, to pop-ups and classes, venues across the city are ready to host skaters of all ages and skill levels. Read on for our guide to roller skating in LA, and be sure to stop by the featured shops so you'll look great showing off your moves in your custom skates.

Mother Wolf

Acclaimed chef Evan Funke opened Mother Wolf (1545 Wilcox Ave, Los Angeles 90028) in Hollywood's red-hot Vinyl District at the beginning of 2022 and celebs have been packing it ever since.

The Carters were spotted there in February 2022 - a mere 15 feet from the Eater LA team - and the Daily Mail noted that Beyoncé "wore her luxurious hair down."

Located in the historic Citizen News building adjacent to the Thompson Hollywood, Mother Wolf is Funke's homage to Rome and its mythical founders, Romulus and Remus, and the she-wolf, Lupa Capitolina. To start, the carciofi alla giudia (fried artichokes) is a must. Signature dishes include the classic cacio e pepe, Roman-style thin crust pizzas, and housemade gelatti and sorbetti.

Rose Bowl Stadium

One of LA's great championship venues, the world-famous Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena has hosted five Super Bowls, gold medal matches for two Summer Olympics, two FIFA World Cup Finals, superstar concerts and the annual Rose Bowl Game for which it’s named. Sports Illustrated has named Rose Bowl Stadium the number one venue in college sports and one of the Top 20 Venues of the 20th Century.

The Carters most recently performed at Rose Bowl Stadium when they brought their OTR II Stadium Tour to Pasadena for a two-night stand in September 2018. Jam-packed with hits, the two hour-plus setlist was interspersed with videos of the superstar couple filming each other in numerous settings.

Beyoncé previously performed at the Rose Bowl during the Formation World Tour in May 2016. The concert included songs from her album Lemonade and she sang "The Beautiful Ones" as a tribute to Prince, who had died the previous month.

Supervinyl

Located on a trendy stretch of Sycamore Avenue, Supervinyl (900 N. Sycamore Ave, Los Angeles 90038) is the brainchild of Lucky Jeans co-founder Barry Perlman. The sleek, modern design by LA-based Standard Architecture features a black brick and glass storefront and a minimalist interior with black oak shelves that display albums like an art gallery, rather than hiding their cover art in the usual record store bins.

In April 2024 Beyoncé took over Supervinyl to celebrate the release of her latest album, Cowboy Carter, and the Queen herself stopped by to sign records. Beyoncé did a similar takeover in October 2022 for Renaissance.

Beyoncé's eighth consecutive number one album on the Billboard 200, Cowboy Carter made history by debuting at number one on the Top Country Albums chart, becoming the first by a Black woman to do so. The single “Texas Hold ‘Em” became the first song by a Black woman to top the Hot Country Songs chart.

Sushi Park

In August 2017, Bey and Jay had a date night without the kids at one of their favorite sushi spots, Sushi Park (8539 Sunset Blvd #20, West Hollywood 90069). Located on the second floor of a strip mall off the famed Sunset Strip, Sushi Park takes its sushi seriously, as posted in a sign: “NO TAKE OUT! No Salad! No Teriyaki, Tempura! No Trendy Sushi! No California Roll! No Spicy Tuna Roll! We serve only Traditional Sushi!" The omakase experience, which spans 17 courses and more than 30 different cuts of high-end sushi, costs about $200 per person. It's a small price to pay if you're dining next to music royalty.

Uchi

Speaking of sushi and Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé gave a shout out to Uchi (9001 Santa Monica Blvd Ste 101, West Hollywood 90069) on her website as part of the album rollout. Founded by James Beard Award‑winning Chef Tyson Cole, Houston-based Uchi ("house" in Japanese) offers non‑traditional Japanese cuisine with signature tastings, sushi and a seasonal omakase.

Beyoncé posted a photo of herself sipping sake in the private dining room (Yuki No Bosha junmai ginjo, per LA Mag); and two desserts by Executive Pastry Chef Ariana Quant: Fried Milk (vanilla custard, salted fudge, toasted blondies) and Warm Banana Cake with chicory caramel, buckwheat and white coffee Kailua ice cream.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, self-described Beyoncé fan Quant said that seeing the superstar post about her desserts has been “bucket list worthy … I hope it was because she loved it and had a memorable dinner." She added, “Who isn’t a Beyoncé fan? She’s Queen Bey!”

UTA Artist Space

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are well-known art aficionados - they own a world-class collection of art and took over the Louvre in the stunning music video for APESH*T (280 million views and counting).

In February 2019, the Carters attended the opening of UTA Artist Space & Kasseem "Swizz Beatz" Dean present DREAMWEAVERS, a group exhibition curated by Nicola Vassell that featured artwork by African American artists like Barack Obama’s portraitist, Kehinde Wiley; Carrie Mae Weems and Kerry James Marshall. As reported by Yahoo! Lifestyle, Beyoncé wore "an outfit that complemented the premise of the show: an Ankara suit and hat. She paired them with a tiny, boxy purse and a pair of sandals. Outside of viewing the art, she and Jay also spent time talking to some of the other guests, including Pharrell Williams and his wife, Helen Lasichanh."

Since opening in 2016, UTA Artist Space (405 Foothill Rd, Beverly Hills 90210) has presented notable exhibitions by artists including Ai Weiwei, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Derrick Adams, Petra Cortright, The Haas Brothers, and Larry Clark.

Walter Mendez

Dressing a global superstar like Beyoncé can instantly catapult a fashion designer to fame. That was certainly the case with Walter Mendez, who was raised in Manhattan Beach and owns a boutique at Robertson Plaza in WeHo (120 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles 90048). "To have a red-carpet brand in the nucleus of all red carpets is essential to me," Mendez told The Hollywood Reporter.

Beyoncé wore Mendez's stunning emerald green gown to Jay-Z's third annual Tidal X charity concert in October 2017. It was the Queen's first red carpet appearance since she gave birth to her twins, and by amazing coincidence it was also Mendez's birthday. The Walter Collection is open Monday-Saturday by appointment only.
