A Note from Ernie - March 2019

Ernest Wooden Jr.

Dear Friends,

Last week, Mayor Garcetti, city & county leadership as well as officials from Los Angeles World Airports broke ground on the Automated People Mover, a train which will connect travelers directly to each LAX terminal and link up to Metro’s light rail system.

LAX is the first and last impression of our dynamic destination and this historic infrastructure project will deliver a world-class experience for millions and millions of travelers. Once completed in 2023, this absolute game-changer will provide convenient, reliable and accessible public transportation for an expected 30 million travelers annually while reducing traffic congestion in and around the airport.

I’m pleased to share travelers in January 2019 generated $24.3 million in Transient Occupancy Tax collections for the City of L.A.’s General Fund. This brings our fiscal year-to-date total to $185.3 million, which is 8.1 percent higher than the same time last year. These funds continue to be one of the fastest growing revenue streams for the City and pay for critical community services.
