A Note from Ernie - October 2019
Dear Friends,
Fall in Los Angeles has officially arrived. A season that features some of the best weather of the year, exciting sports, incredible surf and a full calendar of outdoor movie screening and concerts, it’s no surprise travelers are enticed to experience our destination’s endless summer.
Our industry is starting off FY 19-20 on the right foot as travelers to Los Angeles generated $59.8 million in transient occupancy tax collections during July and August 2019. This total is a 2.2% increase over last year and in line with the adopted budget for FY 19-20. City officials estimate a total of $326.6 million in TOT funds will be poured into the city’s general fund this fiscal year.
Next Monday, Oct. 21, Los Angeles Tourism will host an exclusive screening of the award-winning documentary “Skid Row Marathon,” free for our Members at Regal Cinemas at L.A. LIVE. If you heard Judge Craig Mitchell – founder of the Skid Row Running Club – speak at our Market Outlook Forum this past August, you understand the positive impact he and the club are making on our community. I sure hope you can join us – and our special guests – for this special screening. You can find more information in our News & Notes section.
These are just a few of the many updates from Los Angeles Tourism that we’re sharing with you in October’s newsletter. As always, we will continue to work on behalf of our members and partners to bring the world to Los Angeles.
Best wishes,
Ernest Wooden Jr.
