Commonwealth and Council

Commonwealth and Council

This gallery’s Koreatown location has a speakeasy feel-- it is easy to miss its inconspicuous iron gate, and an entry code from their website is necessary for entry. Once in, you go up two flights to a wood-floored, light-filled, beautiful gallery space very much worth the journey. Commonwealth and Council was founded by artist and curator Young Chung in his apartment which was on Commonwealth Avenue and Council Street. For years, his home functioned as a residency and exhibition space for contemporary artists. Since 2010, Commonwealth and Council has expanded to its current, larger location in Los Angeles and another equally cool space in Mexico City. Even with its significant commercial success, the space and its exhibitions still retain the energy of a young artists’ collective. It is one the best alternative/underground art galleries in the city.

Make Room LA

They host performances, events, and special projects across disciplines to support collaboration and give voice to the city’s artistic community.

Beyond the Streets

Beyond the Streets
