Coming Soon: The Best of LA Apr. 21-27, 2025

Whether you’re local or just passing through before this weekend’s Stagecoach Festival in Indio, there’s a lot to keep you occupied this week, from Marc Maron at Largo to Eiljah Fox’s midweek double-header at Lodge Room to Kim Gordon’s hometown show on Thursday night. This weekend’s hot tickets include jam band greats Phish, who are playing three nights at Hollywood Bowl; and Rauw Alejandro, who plays Intuit Dome on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, DJ Harvey plays open to close at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes; Japanese performer Ichiko Aoba will be at The Wiltern; and LA Opera’s premiere of Ainadamar will take place at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Saturday night. Outside of music, the Dodgers play the Pirates at home throughout the weekend; the TCM Classic Film Festival runs Thursday through Sunday in Hollywood; and Skirball Cultural Center hosts its family-friendly Puppet Festival on Sunday afternoon. Doug Loves Movies - Dynasty Typewriter (April 21)
For nearly 20 years, comedian Doug Benson has been entertaining film fans with his podcast Doug Loves Movies. You can be a part of the audience on Monday, April 21, when he records at Dynasty Typewriter.

Marc Maron - Largo at the Coronet (April 22)
Currently in the midst of his All In tour, Marc Maron will be filming his special of the same name next month in Brooklyn. Before he does that, though, the comedian will be back in LA for a handful of live dates, including Tuesday night’s set at Largo.

Rex the Dog - Jungle (April 23)
On April 23, Clinic welcomes Rex the Dog, who performs with analog electronics and a modular synthesizer that he built. The British musician and producer has long been a favorite of dance music fans with discerning tastes. Rex the Dog’s latest single on Kompakt, “Not Going Home,” dropped in early March. Free entry before 11pm with RSVP, VIP table reservations are available.

Elijah Fox (Late Show) - Lodge Room (April 23)
LA-based Elijah Fox has played with Childish Gambino and Kali Uchis, was sampled by Drake and 21 Savage and is the keyboardist for Yussef Dayes Experience. But he might be best known for his viral piano piece, “Wyoming.” The first of Fox’s two shows at Lodge Room on Wednesday night has already sold out, but tickets remain for his 10:15pm performance.

Teen Mortgage - Zebulon (April 23)
D.C. punk duo Teen Mortgage brings their nationwide tour to LA with two midweek concerts at Zebulon. Their Thursday night gig is already sold out, but tickets are available to catch them on Wednesday, April 23. Act quickly if you don’t want to miss this rare all-ages show, with support from Spoon Bender, at the Frogtown hotspot. Tickets at Dice.

Kim Gordon - The Belasco (April 24)
A true trailblazer, musician and artist Kim Gordon helped define the sound of 1980s and ‘90s indie rock as the bassist for Sonic Youth; was a forbear of the Riot Grrrl movement; and her influence can still be felt across music, fashion and film. Last year, her second solo album, The Collective, scored Gordon her first two GRAMMY nominations. She plays a hometown show at The Belasco on Thursday, April 24. CNBLUE - The Novo (April 24)
Long-running K-pop group CNBLUE are back in LA on Thursday, April 24 for a stop on their “Voyage Into X in North America” tour. Named for the band’s most recent EP, X, the tour is only hitting a handful of cities, so for fans this night at The Novo is not to be missed! Tickets to the all-ages show are on sale at AXS, with an available VIP package that includes soundcheck rehearsal access and group photo.

Creative Cultivation Salon - JACCC (April 24)
LA’s own non-profit online radio station, dublab, is raising funds on Thursday night with the Creative Cultivation Salon at the Japanese American Culture and Community Center in Little Tokyo. Taking place in the James Irvine Japanese Garden, the night includes live performances from Claire Rousay, Sharada Shashidhar and a DJ set from Maral; a panel discussion with dublab hosts, video art and food from Riviera Seafood Club. Strong Words: Voices of the City - The Autry (April 24)
On Thursday, April 24, The Autry welcomes Strong Words: Voices of the City, the LA-based monthly community event that celebrates diversity through the creative arts. For this edition of Autry After Hours, the museum will open its galleries at 6pm, with the Strong Words Performance Workshop taking place from 7pm to 8:30pm.

Night Bass: Badger - Sound (April 24)
AC Slater’s decade-old party brand Night Bass returns to Sound on Thursday, April 24 with the LA debut of British DJ and producer Badger, who has been perking up dance floors with a mix of U.K. garage and jungle. Petey Clicks and special guests will also hit the decks for this 21+ rager. Tickets at Dice.

The Bloody Beetroots - The Fonda (April 25)
It’s been 20 years since The Bloody Beetroots emerged from Italy with a rambunctious sound that captivated dance floors of the indie sleaze era. To celebrate this anniversary, the project helmed by Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo is on a world tour and will stop at Hollywood’s Fonda Theatre on Friday, April 25. Tickets at AXS.

Phish - Hollywood Bowl (April 25-27)
Before they begin their summer tour, Phish will play three nights at the Hollywood Bowl, beginning on Friday, April 25. Three-day passes to see the jam band greats are sold out, but individual show tickets are available at Ticketmaster for their Friday, Saturday and Sunday night concerts. Gates open at 5pm on Friday and Saturday and 4:30pm on Sunday, giving you two hours to picnic at the Bowl before showtime.

Clairvoyance - Philosophical Research Society (April 25)
SpectreVision, the production company behind cult favorites like Mandy and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, brings the SpectreVision Radio podcast to Philosophical Research Society on Friday night for Clairvoyance, a live recording featuring a panel of clairvoyants. Tickets at Eventbrite.

Light Up the Blues - The Greek Theatre (April 26)
Presented by Autism Speaks and hosted by Kristen and Stephen Stills, Light Up the Blues boasts a stellar lineup. Stephen Stills is set to play, as is his Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young bandmate Neil Young, who will appear alongside his band Chrome Hearts. Billy Idol and Steve Stevens, Cat Power, Linda Perry, Chris Stills, Nathaniel Rateliff and Rufus Wainwright will also perform, as well as special guests TBA. Tickets at Ticketmaster.

"Ainadamar" - Dorothy Chandler Pavilion (April 26)
GRAMMY-winning composer Osvaldo Golijov and librettist David Henry Hwang collaborated on Ainadamar, which makes its premiere with LA Opera on Saturday, April 26. The opera, with a title that is Arabic for “fountain of tears,” is based on the life and death of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca and will run at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion through May 18.

Take It Outside: DJ Harvey - LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes (April 26)
Event series Take It Outside returns to LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes on Saturday, April 26 with disco-head favorite DJ Harvey, who will be playing his only open-to-close set of the season. The party in the stunning walled garden starts at 5pm and goes until midnight. Tickets at Resident Advisor.

Midnight Magic - Troubadour (April 26)
Midnight Magic, the New York-based outfit whose 2011 nu-disco heater “Beam Me Up” became a sleeper hit after it appeared in a Häagen-Dazs commercial a few years ago, headlines the Troubadour in West Hollywood on Saturday, April 26. The band will be playing live. Legs and Sparkle City Disco will open the show. Tickets at See Tickets.

Skirball Puppet Festival (April 27)
One Grain of Sand Puppet Theater, The Gottabees and East Wind Lion Dancers are among the performers at this year’s Skirball Puppet Festival, taking place from noon to 5pm on Sunday, April 27. This family-friendly day of puppetry and music is one of the most popular events at the Skirball Cultural Center, so don’t miss out. It’s free for members, as well as children under age 2.
