SoFi Stadium: The Story of an LA Icon
Discover the home of the LA Rams and Chargers
Opened in September 2020, SoFi Stadium is a spectacular new addition to LA's world-class collection of sports and events venues. Located in Inglewood, the state-of-the-art stadium is the home of the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Developed by Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke, the 3.1 million square-foot stadium is the largest in the NFL, as well as the first indoor-outdoor stadium to be constructed. The stadium seats 70,000 (expandable up to 100,000), with more than 260 luxury suites and over 13,000 premium seats.
SoFi Stadium hosted Super Bowl LVI in 2022, the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in January 2023, and will host the CONCACAF Gold Cup Final on July 16, 2023. SoFi Stadium is one of the host venues of the 2026 World Cup, and will co-host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2028 Summer Olympics.
SoFi Stadium is the centerpiece of the 298-acre Hollywood Park, a mixed-use development project featuring lifestyle retail, commercial office space, a hotel, 2,500 residences, and outdoor park spaces.
"It’s the closest any fan can get to the action in an NFL venue." ~ HKS
HKS
SoFi Stadium was designed by HKS, which was inspired by the "sweeping coastline and the beauty and strength of the Pacific Ocean."
The stadium's striking roof ensures that events will go on, rain or shine. The translucent design bathes the interior in natural light, and also shades spectators from the direct sun. In true SoCal style, adjustable roof panels can direct ocean breezes throughout the indoor-outdoor space.
Since SoFi Stadium is located just a few miles from LAX, FAA height restrictions led to an innovative solution: the seating bowl is situated 100 feet below the existing grade. HKS notes that guests can enjoy an immersive football experience right behind the players – it’s "the closest any fan can get to the action in an NFL venue."
Studio-MLA
The landscape design was created by Studio-MLA, which also designed green spaces for Dodger Stadium, Banc of California Stadium, the Natural History Museum, and the upcoming Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.
Guests descend into the stadium through "canyons" of plants and trees from across California. Studio-MLA founder Mia Lehrer told the LA Times, “It’s all about how the stadium is part of the landscape and the landscape is part of the stadium.”
Open year-round to the public, the sustainably-designed Lake Park spans 25 acres and includes a performance stage, waterfalls, and a 5.5-acre artificial lake filled with reclaimed water that helps irrigate the park.
The Infinity Screen by Samsung
The Infinity Screen by Samsung is a 70,000 square foot, dual-sided videoboard positioned 122 feet above the playing field. The massive videoboard spans 120 yards, weighs 2.2 million pounds, and houses 268 speakers. The groundbreaking Infinity Screen features the most LEDs ever used in a sports or entertainment venue, as well as the first and only 4K, end-to-end video production in a stadium.
In an interview with ESPN, SoFi Stadium's chief technology officer, Skarpi Hedinsson called the Infinity Screen "the eighth wonder of the sports world."
The Infinity Screen is designed to serve spectators in every seat, from the sideline to the upper deck. Teams on the sidelines and fans sitting in the stadium's lower bowl view the inside of the screen, while guests in the upper bowl view the outer panels of the videoboard.
Events
The stadium's year-round calendar of events includes concerts and special events like Taylor Swift (Aug. 3-5 & 8-9, 2023), Metallica (Aug. 25 & 27), Beyoncé (Sept. 1, 2 & 4), Ed Sheeran (Sept. 23) and P!nk (Oct. 5).
SoFi Stadium Tours
Book a SoFi Stadium Tour and you'll feel like you've stepped into the cleats of an NFL player on game day. The immersive, behind-the-scenes experience takes guests through the creation of SoFi Stadium, private luxury suites, Rams and Chargers locker rooms, and a Tunnel Run onto the field, where they'll put their football skills to the test. Inspired by the NFL Scouting Combine, the on-field challenges include running the 40-yard dash, attempting a field goal kick, and passing tests. After they finish their challenges, attendees can compare their stats to those of the pros.
Hosted exclusively during the NFL season, Rally Days give fans an unforgettable experience the day before Rams and Chargers home games. The tours feature an elevated, team-focused atmosphere that's perfect for the ultimate football fan.
Tickets are on sale at the SoFi Stadium Tours website. Options include Date & Time, Anytime and Group.
The Equipment Room
The official team store of the Rams and Chargers, The Equipment Room offers the largest selection of licensed gear for both teams, as well as stadium exclusives and collabs with local artists.
100% of proceeds from Salute to Service products are donated to three non-profit organizations: USO, Pat Tillman Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project. Proceeds from Pink product sales go to the American Cancer Society.
The Equipment Room is open daily 11:30am - 6pm. NOTE: on event days, the store is only accessible to ticketed guests from inside the stadium. For more info, visit The Equipment Room website.
LA Eats
Inspired by four iconic LA streets and their neighborhoods, James Beard Award-winning chefs, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo have partnered with SoFi Stadium, the Rams and Chargers to create the LA Eats food menus:
- Fairfax Avenue - burgers, subs and deli
- Olvera Street - Mexican favorites like Chicken Tinga Nachos
- San Vicente Boulevard - personal pizzas and the Stromboli Dog
- Sawtelle Boulevard - Asian fusion including Tsunami Tots
The LA Eats concession stands feature live-fire kitchens - a first for stadium design - and clear glass. With sightlines to the field, videoboard or seating bowl, fans won't miss a single play.
