We Love LA: Wildfire Relief Events

When wildfires erupted across Los Angeles County, devastating areas like Pacific Palisades and Altadena in the process, Angelenos flew into action. Donation drives popped up everywhere from community centers to nightclubs and brought in so many contributions that most have since ended. Still, there is a need for both funds and volunteers to help relief efforts.

For those who want to contribute their time, organizations like Los Angeles Regional Food Bank are actively seeking volunteers and LA Animal Services is looking for foster and adoptive pet parents to help ease the amount of animals in the shelter as more are expected to come in as a result of the wildfires.

Over the next few weeks, fundraiser events ranging from DJ nights to concerts to comedy shows will be taking place throughout the city. Check out some of the opportunities below.

Art for Renewal - 18th Street Arts Center (through May 18)

In the wake of the devastating fires that have swept through Los Angeles, many artists in our community have faced tremendous loss—of their homes, studios, and materials. In response, 18th Street Arts Center is hosting Art for Renewal, a special benefit sale of small artworks.

This sale is an opportunity to support the recovery and resilience of our creative community. All the proceeds will go to the LA Arts Community Fire Relief Fund and every purchase directly benefits artists who have been affected by the fires, helping them rebuild and continue their vital contributions to our cultural landscape. The artwork for sale has been donated by artists from the 18th Street Community across the globe.

Along with the announced acts, there were several surprise appearances, including Dr. Dre and Sheila E performing with Anderson .Paak; Slash, who sat in with The Black Crowes; and a reunited Nirvana (Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear) fronted by four women: St. Vincent on "Breed," Kim Gordon ("School"), Joan Jett ("Stay Away") and Dave's daughter Violet closing the set with "All Apologies."

Contributions made to FireAid in connection with the concert and other direct donations will be distributed under the advice of the Annenberg Foundation and will be distributed for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California.
